Our story
Sailing Club Divers was originally established as Octopus Diving Club on 22 June 1999, making it one of the first, most successful and longest-running dive centres in Vietnam.
In 2002, five of the western dive staff and the current owner bought the company from the original French owners; they dropped the word “Club” and Octopus Diving was open for business — run by young, enthusiastic divers, for divers. In November 2004 Sailing Club took 100% control, and Octopus Diving became Sailing Club Divers, part of the world-famous Sailing Club Vietnam.
Sailing Club Vietnam was founded in 1994 by a young and ambitious Australian, Peter Vidotto. The first Sailing Club bar was a rustic beach bar in the heart of Nha Trang; over the years it grew into the Sailing Club Nha Trang known today, and the company expanded along the coast with Mia Resort Mui Ne, the Sandals restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City and, in 2011, Mia Resort Nha Trang.
Starting from daily dive trips and basic PADI courses, Sailing Club Divers has since expanded into a PADI Five Star IDC Centre with booking locations in and around Nha Trang: Nha Trang Sailing Club at 72–74 Tran Phu, Mia Nha Trang Resort & Spa at Bai Dong, Six Senses Ninh Van Bay and Evason Ana Mandara Resort & Spa.
Track record
Founded as Octopus Diving Club on 22 June — one of the very first dive centres in Vietnam.
Completed our first PADI Instructor Development Course. We still hold the only 100% first-time pass rate at PADI Instructor Exams in Vietnam.
Sailing Club takes full control; Octopus Diving becomes Sailing Club Divers, part of Sailing Club Vietnam.
Third in the region — including Thailand and Cambodia — for PADI's annual New Diver Acquisitions award.
SSI Australasia regional award for Excellence in Diver Training.
Named Nha Trang's Best Dive Operator by diving-in-vietnam.com, and honoured by PADI Asia Pacific at MIDE Kuala Lumpur for Outstanding Contribution to Diver Acquisition.
Conservation
We take part in the Nha Trang Bay MPA clean-up day, the Crown of Thorns removal programme, Project AWARE's Dive Against Debris and Dive Into Earth Day international clean-ups.
We helped install mooring buoys in the Hon Mun Marine Protected Area as part of the campaign to protect the coral reefs from anchor damage. We actively promote environmentally responsible diving and snorkelling, and we are proud members of Green Fins.
